Self Care & Mental Health Poetry Workshops with Shareefa Energy

Award winning performance poet and writer Shareefa Energy will be facilitating workshops in Oadby in Leicester on the weekend of 4th and 5th May, 2-5pm.

The workshops will create a holistic space, focusing on self care and mental health.

The workshops will be a reminder there is no shame when naturally struggling with our mental health during personal turbulent times or when the world is in turmoil and impacts us.

There will be open discussions, poetry and creative writing exercises with the time to write and walk away with a few different pieces of writing.

The purpose of the workshop will be to support participants to express themselves with a healthy outlet and improve self-confidence and self-esteem.

Shareefa will share her experience as a storyteller and using poetry as a tool to support her mental health, PTSD and the marginalised communities she works with. Staying grounded by accessing nature to support us during anxious times will also be explored, with guided poetry meditations.

Participants will have the opportunity if comfortable for their writing to be performed in the exhibition space, filmed and archived (faces do not have to be shown).

Participants will also receive poetry performance/public speaking tips. This will be the start of a journey of self care and self reflection. It’s a great opportunity for marginalised voices to be articulated and heard.

A course of 2 workshops as part of the project Illuminate. It is essential to commit to both workshops as the co created work will be exhibited later this year.

I have asked for a refundable deposit of £10, provided you attend all workshops. This is to secure your space and to ensure your commitment
